We made a little progress on the 96 “Rally” over the weekend. We needed to fit an engine block and gearbox to make the so-called Mexico brackets for extra support. I also modified the dash by cutting away the corners, to make it fit behind the vertical rollcage tubes. And I painted a few bits and pieces. Some photos:
Engine bay painted.
We fitted the engine block and gearbox combo to make the mexico-brackets.
The rollcage fitted.
Tikkis borrowed me a factory team original exhaust system to model my own version after.
Making the right hand side mexico-brakcet.
And the bracket ready.
Left hand side mexico-bracket.
And the left hand side bracket from behind.
The control arms were strengthened also as per Saab Sport&Rally instructions.
The stronger Saab 95 axle painted and ready to install.
The dash was modified by removing the padding and also cutting away the corners to make it fit behind the roll cage.
I removed the hood hinges and the locking system, and drilled holes for locking pins. Some new paint also.
