99T part 5 – new sheet metal for the rocker panels
And here's the new outer rocker panel with a patch panel for the floor.
There’s a ton of welding to be done on the 99 Turbo. We decided to start with the floor and the rocker panels to get some integrity back into the body. The outer rocker panels were pretty much rotten away but thankfully the inner panels were pretty much ok. This makes repairs a bit easier, since replacing the inner rocker panels would be a real pain.
We put in a little extra support beams before cutting the outer panels away. The Saab 99 body is quite stiff, but we were cutting away some important sections. When the rocker panels have been repaired I’m thinking we will change the whole quarter panels (or most of them). This requires cross-bracing the cabin. But we shall see when we get there…
A bit of rust here and there… All the old patches and rust is going to come off.
All the rust cut away. The inner rocker panels were in ok condition and can be spared.
Also the front section on the passenger side was ok. All the other jacking points have to be repaired.
Floor repair – some new sheet metal already.

Newly fabricated outer rocker panels.
And here’s where they belong. Too bad we didn’t have long enough sheet metal to make the patch full length.

Lost and found – I finally got the Inca wheel center caps from the previous owner.
And bought a set of Brembo brake discs front and back.
Making a patch panel for the section under the rear side window. But – I’m now thinking we will replace most of the quarter panels in one big piece, so these may not be needed.
I’m also thinking, that I’ll change the color of the car to black…
