Sad News – Erik Carlsson has died this morning

Erik Carlsson receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award from Peter Bäckström. Originally he was supposed to receive this from Victor Müller already in 2010 but as Saab went under (again) it fell through. But better late than never.

This has circulated in the emails today: “Dear all, Sad news – Erik Carlsson died this morning in a London hospital. He fell in his home in Eaton Bray two and a half week ago, injured his back and punctured a lung never to recover. He was 86 years. 99T part 5 – new sheet metal for the rocker panels

And here's the new outer rocker panel with a patch panel for the floor.

There’s a ton of welding to be done on the 99 Turbo. We decided to start with the floor and the rocker panels to get some integrity back into the body. The outer rocker panels were pretty much rotten away but thankfully the inner panels were pretty much ok. This makes repairs a bit easier,… Continue reading 99T part 5 – new sheet metal for the rocker panels

Saab 99T Part 3 – Engine removed

Time to wash the engine bay.

We got the engine removed from the car yesterday. Today I didn’t have that much time to work on it, but managed to get the engine bay washed to check the corrosion situation. I expected there to be quite a bit to weld, but it turned out to be in good condition.

Saab 99T part 2 – disassembly continued, headlight bezel repair

The dash is a bit of a pain to take apart compared to a Saab 96.

I have been continuing with the disassembly of the 1978 99 Turbo. It’s coming along well – no big problems so far. The rust situation is pretty much as I already suspected. There’s a lot to weld. Thankfully I have pretty much rust free doors, bonnet and hatch awaiting. One thing we try to be… Continue reading Saab 99T part 2 – disassembly continued, headlight bezel repair
