The project has been on hold for the summer (too much stuff to do, places to go to, etc.). I managed to get to the Saabclub summer happening, which was great. Lots of Saabs, new and old. I sold a bunch of 99 stuff and bought an equal amount of 96 stuff… 🙂 Here’s the… Continue reading Part 21. Miscellaneous stuff

Door trim repair
I have never done any upholstery stuff, so I started sort of small. I decided to fix the door panels that were a terrible mess. The original panel on the left, and the one I made on the right. Close enough. The fabric part (imitation leather) was in pretty good shape, despite the panels themselves… Continue reading Door trim repair
Part 20. Crankshaft renovation
Here’s a few shots about the crankshaft renovation and a few words on the differences of the “regular” and Sport-crankshaft: The crankshaft renovation was done by a fellow Saab-enthusiast Lasse Peltola. Many thanks to him for outstanding work. I’m really sorry if the explanations are a bit hard to follow. I don’t know the correct… Continue reading Part 20. Crankshaft renovation
Saab 96 V4 1967
Here’s a few pics of a Saab 96 V4 1967 we picked up for my friend Vesa. The 1967 Saab 96 is the first year with the Ford V4 engine. The previous models were all two strokers. The body is in terrible condition, but all parts are in place and the engine actually was in… Continue reading Saab 96 V4 1967
Part 19. More engine bay
I did some fitting to the front section, here’s the radiator: Also the “diffusers” that were fabricated earlier: And then time for some more paint:
Part 18. Cabin
Some progress again after a lengthy break: The whole floor was changed earlier which was a major operation. Now it’s getting the finishing touches before painting. Below is a pic of the floor as it was originally. Not much metal left underneath the paint… Corrosion was sanded off the roof and it was further straightened… Continue reading Part 18. Cabin
Part 17. Fitting some parts
I’ve had a bit of break from the project, but it’s sort of starting to pick up again. Here’s some pictures of fitting the bumber and finalising the fitting of the bonnet and fenders. Unfortunately all pics were taken with inferior equipment. Passenger side was pretty good, only minor hammering was necessary. The driver side… Continue reading Part 17. Fitting some parts
Part 16. Radiator
A few shots of the radiator my father fixed. The radiator was in moderate condition, but a few attachments had been broken loose, so he tinned those in place. It was ofcourse put through a parts washing machine before that. Afterwards it was further cleaned and then painted black. Looks great now! After tinning it,… Continue reading Part 16. Radiator
Saab 96 1977 – Winter Fun
Having a little winter fun, dad at the wheel and I taking photos…
Part 15. Paint and metal
The pedal box …And other miscellaneous parts… Yeah – more stuff than I actually need for this project… Some metal work: Here’s a few illustrative shots of how much had to be replaced because of corrosion. Above: The footwell as it is now, after welding. Below: The green part (the floor) is from the donor… Continue reading Part 15. Paint and metal
