I painted the body today. The color is from the Saab 9-5 (2007) chart and it’s called “Polar White” (it has a somewhat creamy tint to it, not pure white). Well, the coating is not perfect but all in all quite good. I didn’t leave any dry spots but I did get a few runs.… Continue reading Part 48. Paint!

Part 47. Sanding the filler
We sanded the filler today (the whole car, took about 5 hours with two men working…) But the car is now ready for overcoat! Some photos: I said earlier that the area below the window frame was somewhat pitted – here’s a photo to illustrate. I had to sand a lot of the filler away… Continue reading Part 47. Sanding the filler
Part 46. Filler paint
Filler time! It’s starting to look like the body will get it’s color this summer! I’ve sprayed the filler yesterday and today. I put on about six coats on the roof (to have plenty of the stuff to work with) and three on the sides depending on how uneven the surface looked. And two coats… Continue reading Part 46. Saab 900 T8 Special 1989
Since the 900i was stolen I was forced to buy a new car. (The 900i was later found in pretty good condition though… So I now have the 900i and this Turbo as well). This is what I found: It’s a 1989 Saab 900 T8 Special. Or as it is sometimes called “a poor man’s… Continue reading Saab 900 T8 Special 1989
Part 45. Prepare for paint still continued
Some brogress on the project: The left hand side rear fender coming along nicely. A “new” right hand side fender (Many thanks Eirik!) Only a little rust repair needed, otherwise a very good piece. For the past week I’ve been working on the roof: The rear part is pretty ok. But there’s quite a lot… Continue reading Part 45. Prepare for paint still continued
900i stolen! (and found)
My car got stolen! My Saab 900 is gone. Somebody took it from our yard, not 10 meters away from my bedroom window. Didn’t even wake up… The car was locked, but.. Well… The locks on these old Saabs… I did have one of those separate locks to go between a pedal and the steering… Continue reading 900i stolen! (and found)
Part 44. Prepare for paint continued
The side panels are starting to look ok: I realised that we really need to do the final fitting of the doors and fenders before I spray the overcoat on the car. It will take some time, so I’m not all that confident that I will have time to spray the car this summer. We’ll… Continue reading Part 44. Prepare for paint continued
Part 43. Preparing for paint
Putty time! Putty on. Putty off. Putty on. Putty off. Putty on. Putty… Smoothing out the welded areas. Surface pitting here… I don’t know which is worst; sanding or welding…. At the moment I think it’s sanding. 🙂 – – – We are planning on getting the car on it’s wheels next weekend, so all… Continue reading Part 43. Preparing for paint
Part 42. Underside corrosion protection
The underside of the car is now ready for corrosion protection. Everything has been painted: A can of Dinitrol “Corrosion protection for vehicle underbody” and a suitable spraygun. I see Black! Black! 😉 The great thing about painting the underbody a light colour is obvious. You see immediately if you miss a spot when spraying… Continue reading Part 42. Underside corrosion protection
Part 41. Fixing the doors – continued
As you may remember I currently have two right hand side doors that should be made into one… The stroker door has had the skin removed and the green V4 door is going to donate one. But the sroker door also has some rust issues to deal with: So it is not just the matter… Continue reading Part 41. Fixing the doors – continued
