Some progress on the two stroke again. I managed to get a Saab 95 front window rubber from a fellow Saabclub member and the old rear window rubber was only cracked at couple places so it was used as such. Rear fenders are in place. The rubber strip between body and the fenders is thicker… Continue reading Part 74. More 1964 two stroke assembly

Part 73. Updates – mainly front lights
I wasn’t really satisfied with the directional light mods I did earlier – so I did a few changes that I think work better and suit the car better (not that they are visible). I also installed the headlights. We also fitted some other pieces:
Part 72. Front directional lights
The directional lights in front were not in a good shape. The plastic body was ok but the lamp sockets had rusted useless. I thought about finding new replacements but then a couple extra Saab 900 side directional lights came my way… The lights in the shortnose and the OG are similar in shape but… Continue reading Part 72. Front directional lights
Part 71. Seats and stuff…
The seats and interior side panels were pretty much shot in my car. I have been able find only miscellaneous scraps from which I was going to assemble a new interior. But, before summer I got in touch with a fellow “saabsti” who said that he might have some interior bits and pieces, including some… Continue reading Part 71. Seats and stuff…
Part 70. More stuff painted
I have managed to paint some more stuff.
Part 69. Various pieces painted.
I have finally had sufficient time to start painting the various parts that didn’t get painted last year: So, as you see from the photos I will not have the bumpers chromed. There’s not much sense in it since they were in a really bad shape and required extensive welding and repairs. Making them fit… Continue reading Part 69. Various pieces painted.
Part 68. Two Stroke fumes…
I finally have some time to work on the Saab 96 two stroke project again. So here’s a short proggress report. The project is now driveable… 🙂 Check the video: And a few photos of some parts getting the primer…and some sound insulation has been put in also.
Part 67. Running better
Still no time to focus on the project – but here’s a little update on the car: After the first start we had some issues… Some of the carburettors were pretty clogged up, so the fuel flow was insufficient at times. The carburettors removed from the car. Pretty dirty looking setup… Time to take them… Continue reading Part 67. Running better
Part 66. First start!
We finally got the engine running today! Nice feeling even though we had a bunch problems. The good news was that there was only one coolant leak and no fuel leaks. But we had a faulty ignition coil, a clogged fuel pump and a couple of clogged carburettor jets… Here’s a clip: And some photos:
Part 65. More work on the exhaust system.
We did some more work on the exhaust system. The front expansion chamber was made earlier and modified for twin exhaust pipes according to the Haynes manual. The next job is to modify the rear silencer for the twin pipes. Here’s a picture of an original two stroke rear silencer: There are perforated walls at… Continue reading Part 65. More work on the exhaust system.
