The heater blades now have new “arms” for the cables. They were made from brass tube and steel rods that were soldered together and then glued to the blades. Works really well and was actually pretty easy to do. A little something about the wheels: The front suspension is now pretty much assembled. The driveshafts… Continue reading Part 53. Miscellaneous

Part 52. Miscellaneous
I got the engine room wiring mostly sorted out. There isn’t that many differences after all. I had made pretty good drawings when I took the car apart and I also have the wiring diagrams from the workshop handbook. All in all very simple but somewhat time consuming. The ’66 fuse box has a few… Continue reading Part 52. Miscellaneous
Part 51. Some proggress
Some progress on the project: The original wires were a total mess, so I have to construct a new one. And since the car is now going to have a 1966 engine, the original wiring is not correct. I will use the original 1964 wiring in the cabin but the engine bay wiring is going… Continue reading Part 51. Some proggress
Part 50. Electrical & Steering
I have done some work on the wires. The wire harness is from the ’66 longnose since the original one was pretty much useless. I labeled almost every wire as I removed it from the car. It’s infinitely easier to put it back to a car when you know which wire is which just by… Continue reading Part 50. Electrical & Steering
96 two stroke 1962 from Greece
Athanassios’ from Greece sent me these photos of his Saab 96 1962. Excellent photos!
Part 49. Suspension
2008-9-6. Suspension. I have not have too much time to spend on the project lately, but we managed put the suspension more or less together. We started with the rear end. Pretty easy stuff, except I had mislocated the plastic shims that go with the central rubber mount. But we finally found similar parts to… Continue reading Part 49. Suspension
Part 48. Paint!
I painted the body today. The color is from the Saab 9-5 (2007) chart and it’s called “Polar White” (it has a somewhat creamy tint to it, not pure white). Well, the coating is not perfect but all in all quite good. I didn’t leave any dry spots but I did get a few runs.… Continue reading Part 48. Paint!
Part 47. Sanding the filler
We sanded the filler today (the whole car, took about 5 hours with two men working…) But the car is now ready for overcoat! Some photos: I said earlier that the area below the window frame was somewhat pitted – here’s a photo to illustrate. I had to sand a lot of the filler away… Continue reading Part 47. Sanding the filler
Part 46. Filler paint
Filler time! It’s starting to look like the body will get it’s color this summer! I’ve sprayed the filler yesterday and today. I put on about six coats on the roof (to have plenty of the stuff to work with) and three on the sides depending on how uneven the surface looked. And two coats… Continue reading Part 46. Filler paint
Part 45. Prepare for paint still continued
Some brogress on the project: The left hand side rear fender coming along nicely. A “new” right hand side fender (Many thanks Eirik!) Only a little rust repair needed, otherwise a very good piece. For the past week I’ve been working on the roof: The rear part is pretty ok. But there’s quite a lot… Continue reading Part 45. Prepare for paint still continued
