I found two Saab Sport seats earlier but they were in a bad shape (re-upholstered badly). A fellow Saab Club member Briitta promised to sew new covers for me. It took a while but the seats are finally done and I put them in the car already. Here’s some photos of the process and the… Continue reading Saab Sport seats for the two stroke

Ditch light for the two-stroke
I wrote earlier that I put a fog light on the two-stroke. Actually I think the technically correct name for it is a ditch light. (And I remembered the brand wrong – It’s Johnson, not Marchall). A ditch light is basically a driving light aimed at the right side of the road (the ditch side)… Continue reading Ditch light for the two-stroke
Practical improvements for the two stroke
Now that I have been doing a little more driving with the two-stroke some more little issues have surfaced. Here’s some fix ups and photos: Windscreen rubber seal is leaking (and the rear window also). I removed the aluminium strips to be able to lift the rubber a little and inject some window sealer under… Continue reading Practical improvements for the two stroke
SAAB 99 Finlandia and SAAB 900 CD
The SAAB 99 Finlandia prototype was made in the Uusikaupunki car factory in 1976. It was based on the standard SAAB 99 Combi-Coupé. The body was lengthened some 25 centimetres by adding an extension piece in the middle. The model quickly got the nickname “saunanikkuna” (“sauna window”) because of the small extra window between doors.… Continue reading SAAB 99 Finlandia and SAAB 900 CD
Saab 90 Lumikko – Snow Weasel
Weasel is a small and agile predator, which is usually brown in colour. In winter, however, Weasel colour changes to white, to better adapt to the winter landscape. SAAB 90 represented a true baseline model with virtually no options or accessories available. Incidentally Tuulilasi (“Windshield”) magazine held a competition in 1985, in which the idea… Continue reading Saab 90 Lumikko – Snow Weasel
Saab 90 – The Ugly Duckling
In the early 1980s SAAB 99 had become an old model and its manufacturing had been moved to the Saab-Valmet plant at Uusikaupunki. Now that the new SAAB 900 had been released, both the Finns and the Swedish headquarters put a lot of thought into finding a suitable replacement for the 99. The experiments so… Continue reading Saab 90 – The Ugly Duckling
Saab 99 Petro – dual fuel system
I posted earlier the “Saab V8 Engine – The Complete Story” article. It was originally written for the IntSaab2011 magazine. I have a few more short articles from that magazine and I decided post them also. So – here’s the first and more to follow in the next few days: Saab 99 Petro The 1970’s… Continue reading Saab 99 Petro – dual fuel system

Saab 96 Sport brake calipers – checking the condition
We decided to check out the condition of the original brake calipers for the Saab 96 Sport. I wanted to know if they can be restored or if I need to buy new ones on the Trollhättan visit next summer. The custom grease gun fitting was a big help in removing the pistons. We didn’t… Continue reading Saab 96 Sport brake calipers – checking the condition

There is a Saab 99 GLE Finlandia with the small window for sale here: www.nettiauto.com And asking price is very reasonable. Automatic with fuel injection. It does require a lot of work to restore, but there was only 23 made of this 1977 model (Yep – no zeros missing!).
